She Speaks

Our Happy Place Book Club pick for December is She Speaks by Dame Harriet Walter. This is a really good Christmas present for somebody that’s got all the things. I would absolutely love to receive this for Christmas – it’s such a lovely book!
Obviously, Harriet is the most sensational, renowned actor out there. She’s been in everything and she’s famously played 21 of Shakespeare’s roles over the years, acting all over the world from Broadway to the West End, so she knows Shakespeare inside out.
Of course, the thing about Shakespeare’s female character’s is, not only was he a man writing them, they were originally played by men on the stage, as women weren’t allowed to act. So Harriet gives a modern day voice to these women. What would they say today, from Lady Macbeth to the Weird Sisters. It’s so extraordinary and I think you’re going to love reading it along with us.
